Grading fee: 35 EUR
Additional requirements:

Participation in 3 weekend seminars or one week-long seminar taught by members of the dan-grading jury. Attend all classes of each seminar.

The above requirements are minimum requirements, i.e. they assume above-average attendance at classes and at seminars. The head of the dojo decides on admission, in your best interests and with the aim of enabling you to successfully complete the passage.

1. Kyū — Grading Information

Theme

  • Fluent and confident execution of all basic techniques (”shodan mock exam”)
  • Attentive relation to uke, good use of space
  • Confidence and a strong sense of zanshin

Preparation

  • Commit to grading and choose main uke 3 months ahead of the passage
  • Prepare autonomously by practising with your uke and fellow candidates outside regular classes
  • If you have not already done so, sign up for a membership with the Aikido Föderation Deutschland in good time before the passage. In addition to the dojo’s mudansha book, bring the federation’s passport to the passage.

Order of the Passage

IMPORTANT: Make sure that your uke has the tanto ready when lining up!

  • Selection of techniques from the curriculum
  • Jiyu waza from shomen uchi
  • Tanto dori, one disarming technique each from:
    • Shomen uchi
    • Chudan tsuki
    • Ushiro tsuki

The jury may initiate a change of ukes at any time during the passage.

‘Kotai’ (role reversal) may be called at any time.
